LAKE EOLA GOOD SAM’S CHAPTER 68
MINUTES FOR APRIL 17, 2010
President Charlie Hoelscher (hereafter referred to as Charlie) called the meeting to order at 9:27 A.M. on Saturday, April 17,
2010 at Okeechobee KOA RV Resort, Okeechobee, Florida.
Chaplain Bill Catron opened the meeting with a prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Roll Call indicated we had 17 rigs present.
Minutes of Last Meeting (Secretary): Judy Stewart asked if there were any additions or corrections to the March minutes.
No changes were forthcoming. Bob Stewart made a motion that we accept the minutes as written and Leo Woodward
seconded the motion. April minutes will be distributed to all members for review prior to next month’s meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: Bob Tobin reported that the balance as of the end of March was $1,709.96 with deposits of $644.56
less expenditures of $101 for an ending balance of $2,253.52, which includes the escrow fund. Phylis Hager made a motion
to accept the treasurer’s report and was seconded by Joann Durrance.
Committee Reports: Charlie asked each committee head to report:
Bob Stewart, Wagon Master, Bob asked the Chapter to give him some guidance on what the Chapter thought was a
reasonable deposit to a campground and a discussion followed. Scotty Smithwick made a motion that we cap a deposit at
$200 and was seconded by Paul Beck.
Don Harper, Web Master, Don reports that he has made up a “motion picture” of the various
pictures that he received and they are set up on the web site for everyone to view.
Paul Beck, Newsletter Editor, Paul apologized for losing information he received to put in the newsletter.
Jenova Hoelscher/Chris Catron, Historian, Jenova stated that she and Chris Catron both will be the
Historians, that way if one is out, the other can get pictures for our Book.
Joann Durrance, Sunshine Lady, Chris advised that Joann Durrance is now the Sunshine Lady, no cards sent.
Correspondence:
Astatula Worship Center sent a Thank You letter for our donation.
Lake County Animal Services sent a Thank You letter for our donations.
Old Business: Charlie thanked Linda Woodward, Carol DuBeau, Kay Williams, and Joan Cotter for coordinating the wagon
to raffle, everyone who helped sell raffle ticket and Morris Durrance for picking up and storing the wagon each night.
Linda reported that we sold $445 worth of tickets for the 50/50 Raffle for the Wagon full of goodies. Thanks to those who
volunteered to work at the Samboree on the Door Prize Committee and Bill Catron who volunteered to help Security when
our Chapter was asked if we would help. Everyone thanked Jenova Hoelscher for painting all the member’s names on
their “rig” signs and Don Harper for the Lake Eola Sams sign to go on top of the frame. The “rig” signs really look great
hanging on the frame with our Chapter’s name on top. Please remember to take your “rig” sign when you leave on Sunday
so you’ll have it for the next camp out. (Note: We had a lot of people stop to admire our “rig” signs). Bill Catron asked that
we keep Ralph Reeves and his family in our prayers with the loss of Ralph’s brother.
New Business: There was a discussion on how we could communicate better on chapter activities at a Samboree and/or
camp out. One idea was to place the bulletin boards in a conspicuous location so members could check to see what
activities are planned and another suggestion was to make a notebook that would list all the activities that were planned.
Anyone could add an activity at any time so all could see what was going on. Paul Beck volunteered to make up the
notebook and have it available at next month’s camp out. Joe & Debbie Weston, our ASD’s, stated that our Chapter is large
enough now that we need to think about getting more involved at the Samborees by volunteering to work on various
committees or chapter entertainment. Charlie stated that the Chapter would work on getting more involved and everyone
agreed. Scotty & Maureen Smithwick volunteered to work up a program for the Chapter entertainment, just let them know
when. Bill Catron suggested the February or April Samboree. Everyone agreed that the Chapter would volunteer to do the
entertainment for the February Samboree. Debbie Weston reminded us to be sure to include her and Joe in our plans.
(Note: When I gave the Volunteer Form to Reba Ward, she told me that we would be the entertainment for the May
Samboree instead of February and that she had already discussed this with Scotty and Maureen.) Lucy Florence & Donna
Tobin announced that there would be Hors D’oeurves at the Tobin’s rig at 3 o’clock; everyone should bring their own
beverage. Charlie reminded everyone that whoever is planning to go to dinner at the Speckled Perch should be ready to
leave at 4:45 PM. Our Lake Eola Good Sam Chapter was well represented at the Samboree: Bingo winners were Judy
Stewart, Phylis Hager & Bill Catron; Samboree Game winners were: Kay Williams took 1st Place in Wizzard & 2nd Place in
Skip-Bo, John Williams took 2nd Place in Wizzard and Samboree 50/50 Daily Raffles: Linda Woodward won $151.50. After
Friday evening’s dinner, several members went to the Seminole Casino with some coming home a winner.
Birthdays/Anniversaries: We wished Happy Birthday to Carol Cummiskey, Don Harper and Jenova Hoelscher. We also
wished Happy Anniversary to Ralph & Jane Reeves.
Ralph Reeves made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Joann Durrance seconded it. The meeting
was adjourned at 10:12 A.M.
50/50 Raffle: Sold $74 worth of tickets: $37 to Chapter Treasury and Chet Florence won $37.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Stewart
